Calvary Preparatory Academy Middle School / Junior High School: Our online middle school program is based on an independent study model that has been specially designed for a virtual environment. Students are given access to the virtual curriculum of their assigned courses and can access this rigorous, engaging material 24 hours a day from anywhere in the world with an internet connection.
Lessons are standards-based and require mastery of the current subject matter before moving to the next lesson. This is given in the form of a computer-based quiz which requires students to apply the concepts of the lesson to their assessment. In addition to quizzes, students complete a variety of assessments to demonstrate their knowledge and mastery of the subject matter; these vary from written responses turned in on a word document, to live presentations of PowerPoint slides and oral commentary to their teacher during a simultaneous virtual meeting.
Students meet with their teachers online at the arranged times for live, virtual meetings where all parties are simultaneously engaged in their appropriate tasks. Teachers prompt students to present their completed assignments and proceed to grade the assignments live with the students. At this time, students elaborate on their completed work and respond to prompts from the instructor. At the beginning and end of each live, virtual session, student’s grades are discussed and any missing or overdue work is handled according to school policy.
Parents are also welcome to join the live, virtual meetings to ensure the quality of instruction and to provide additional accountability for the student. For security purposes, all virtual sessions are recorded in their entirety and checked by administration for quality assurance.
